Healthy Eating!

Hey guys, Jelly’s back with you! Today’s topic is healthy eating. Now, what you probably don’t know is that, basically, I’m a psychic. I know everything that crosses your mind. Like right now, I know you’re thinking, “OMG leave me alone with all your positive tidbits…I’ll eat what I want to eat, I’m a kid!”

But seriously guys, get over yourselves. Yeah, we’re kids, which puts us at a great advantage if we start thinking about some things now. Sooner or later, the reality of a lot of things is gonna slap us in the face, so why not get a preview now, from a kid your own age, who can relate TOTALLY?

All I ever want to eat is junk …candy, chips, pop, ice cream, cookies, cake, cheeseburgers, fried chicken, French fries, any and everything oozing and goozing with sugar, cheese, and grease. My closest friends and family call me “jelly belly,” for goodness sake…need I really say more? So, I’m right here with you; I need some major help, too, so I am writing this to remind myself, as well. If all you eat is junk, well, you’ll look like junk, because “you are what you eat.” If that’s the case, some of you are walking around looking like huge meatballs!!! And even if you don’t look like a big meatball, if you eat garbage, you’re insides look like garbage too. Do you all really want that?

If we’re not careful, America’s going to look like one big spaghetti and meatball platter filled with meatballs. Look at it this way: if you think about making healthier food choices now, and make a habit of eating healthy, then you don’t have to worry about all those diseases that can kill you over time. Yeah, “kill” is a pretty harsh word, but look at all the grown-ups that have diabetes, cancer, heart conditions, and live miserable lives because they aren’t healthy. I bet they wish they did some things differently earlier. I don’t know about you, but I know I can tone it down a notch, even though cupcakes are my best friends (smile). We don’t have to give up the things we really love completely, just don’t eat it as much of them as often. Every once in a while is perfectly fine!

I know some of you guys may need some ideas on how/what to eat to be healthier and some things you can do to get you more active. You don’t have to do anything too drastic, like 3-hour jogs every day. Instead, do something as simple as, when you’re watching TV during the commercials, do 30 jumping jacks, or a few sit-ups. Whatever you want is fine. Just do something! Here are some more helpful suggestions for things you can start to do right away to be healthier:

  1. Drink lots of water

  2. Eat slower at meals and say no to seconds

  3. Eat lots of fruit

  4. Don’t give the dog your veggies

  5. 1, not 2 scoops of ice cream

  6. Go outside and play

  7. Join a sport

  8. Stretch

There’s so much that you all can do to stay fit and make a change in your lifestyle. It’s really not that hard–just the littlest of things can make a big change in your life. So please do me a favor and make a decision to change your life, one day at a time. Just think ‘bout it!
