“The mind is the architect of your destiny. To change your life, you must first change your thoughts.” -Dr. Joe Dispenza

Hello, THRIVE Detroit Family!

I am Sajjiah Bahia Parker, a spiritual seeker, guide, and fellow traveler on the Journey of Self: the sacred path to Self-Awareness, Self-Knowledge, Self-Mastery, Self-Love, and ultimately, Self-Actualization. My deepest hope is that these words leave an indelible imprint on your spirit, touch your heart, and awaken your mind to this liberating truth:

ree

A Beautiful Life begins with a Beautiful Mind.

Let me give life and dimension to that statement.

A Beautiful Mind is calm and centered, creative and visionary, resilient, grateful, open, and introspective. A Beautiful Life is peaceful, purposeful, passion-full, positive, and plentiful!

Do you desire this? Do you believe it’s possible?

I didn’t always believe it was possible. Not while I was experiencing a kind of pain I never imagined I’d know, the pain of what has felt like the loss of love from my child, my young adult son. That kind of heartbreak is unlike any other. It’s soul-deep. When the light, love, and warmth you once received from your firstborn, your son, your SUN, now feels so cold, distant, and absent, it leaves a void so vast it can swallow you whole.

The irony, however, is that this grief, this pain that has brought me to my knees and made me question everything, has been my most sacred teacher, and I am still here! Still standing. Still healing. Still rising. And it is this practice, this stillness, this presence, this breath that has been my saving grace. Quite literally. It helped me hold my center when everything else around me was falling apart. It reminded me that even when I felt unloved, I was still loved because I am Love. That even in the darkness, I am the Light.

The practice of mindfulness—true mindfulness—is what brought me back to myself. It was (and still is) my lifeline, my anchor, and my access point to peace and positivity. It taught me how to sit still

within myself, how to calm the storm within when life felt suffocating, and how to love myself purely and unconditionally.

And that’s what I want for you.

This is my return to THRIVE, and for the next few months, with each piece I share, I’ll be offering what I call The Blueprint, a series of foundational mindfulness elements that form the framework for building a beautiful mind, and thus a beautiful life. These elements are not theory. They are tried, tested, and transformative!

So, let’s begin—gently, intentionally, and together.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

First Element: STILLNESS

“To the mind that is still, the whole Universe surrenders.” -Lao Tzu

Stillness is our entry point.

To begin your mindfulness practice, find a quiet, comfortable place. It doesn’t need to be a yoga studio, a mountaintop, or a sanctuary. Right now, for me, it’s just the corner of a room, a sacred space carved out with intention. A cushion. A candle. Maybe incense, crystals, or something that holds spiritual or sentimental meaning. That’s enough. That’s everything.

Now, sit on the floor or in a chair; whatever feels comfortable.

Straighten your spine (if you can).

Plant your feet on the floor or the earth.

Close your eyes.

And breathe.

Just breathe.

Let your breath lengthen, deepen, and soften.

Inhale through the nose…

Exhale through the nose…

Slowly. Deeply.

Bring your full attention to your breath.

Why? Because Breath is Spirit. It is the essence of who you are. The body is just the vessel; the breath is the soul’s signature.

Keep your eyes closed, this is how we pull away from the outside world and redirect our awareness inward. If your mind begins to wander (and it will), simply guide it back to the breath, without judgment.

Be patient. Be gentle. And know, even if it feels like nothing is happening… everything is.

In the stillness, something sacred occurs. You begin to hear your Divinity whisper. You begin to come home to yourself.

This is how we move from Mindfulness to Mind-FULL-ness, not just a quiet mind, but a full one… filled with presence, peace, and eventually gratitude, wisdom, love, and truth.

Stillness is step one. We’ll build from here.

If you tried this practice, I’d love to hear from you. What did you feel? What did you notice? Please share your experience with me in the comments below, and stay tuned for the next step in The Blueprint.

May all your dreams come rushing to meet you!

Light & Love, S.B.P.
